SUNDAY LITTER PICK
On Sunday 18th saw two dozen volunteers turn out for the weekly litter pick. A lot of ground was covered and nine bags of waste and three bags of recyclables were collected.
Then last Sunday the 25th, twenty seven volunteers were out in force and collected fifteen bags from which six were segregated for recycling.
Volunteers collected one bag of waste and four bags of recycling when they were out during the week
This was the final participation of Transition Year students for the season and we are grateful for their positive participation.
St. Patrick’s Day saw a dozen volunteers clean up before and after the parade. They managed to collect ten bags of litter and two bags of recycling. These volunteers also participated in the event itself.
There were several different works completed during the past fortnight. These included the removal of tree supports on Community Drive, clearing litter that was dumped near the Westgate walkway at Community Drive, clearing debris and broken glass from the lane way to Muskerry and clearing the Circus Field of both old and new litter. The final protective coat was put on the new planters. Also kerbing areas were cleared of debris and leaves.
We collected two bags of waste from two estates but a number of other estates were also active and disposed of the waste themselves. We are looking forward to working with the estates throughout April for the dedicated An Taisce National Spring Clean.
We are in urgent need of more volunteers to join us on the Sunday morning litter picks. This will enable us to reach more areas. Perhaps people would adopt a stretch of road and this would free up the regulars thus allowing them to go to other areas in need of cleaning. Remember if Sunday morning does not suit, perhaps an hour on a Saturday or another day during the week would work. We will arrange pickers, gloves and bags as well as removing filled bags.
