This week has seen some of the most severe weather conditions in Cork for many years. The heavy snowfall has left most of us grounded and unable to carry on with our everyday lives in the usual manner.

Ballincollig is a tight knit community and it is important that we take time to keep an eye on our elderly. Perhaps some of us could call in to make sure they have heating and that they are well stocked with essentials to carry them over the next few days. Even calling in on an housebound neighbour living alone to have a chat, so that they see a friendly face, would be a kind gesture.

All residents should be aware of their neighbours and perhaps help in gritting their estates.

Please make sure that all pets are brought indoors as they are unable to withstand these subzero temperatures.

And finally, if we could be mindful of the birds and perhaps put out some nuts and other suitable food for them.
