SUNDAY LITTER PICK

On Sunday 8th April, we had a good turnout for the morning’s litter pick. Most of the roads and streets were covered in the hour. A total of sixteen bags of waste were collected from which we got five bags of recycling. The previous Sunday there were twenty two volunteers and they also picked sixteen bags of waste.

During the week litter picks are also conducted.  Of the eight bags collected during the past two weeks, a total of five bags were saved from landfill.

CE/TUS

Works completed over the past fortnight included clearing a boundary area on Community Drive, clearing a litter blackspot on the outskirts, sorting waste materials at the allotment  and getting the new street planters positioned and filled.

ESTATES

Over the past fortnight there has been an upturn in the number of estates starting their cleanups.  April is national Spring Clean time under the longstanding An Taisce initiative. Some of the estates we collected a small amount of waste from were Rosewood, Manor Hill, Westcourt Heights and Classis Lake.  Keeping this effort up will make summer tasks easier.

OTHER NEWS

Work evenings have started this week for 2018.  We are looking for helpers each Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.00  to 8.00 pm. Anyone interested please meet us at AIB on Main Street just before 7.00 or contact us in Tidy Towns.

In order to cover all areas, more help is needed on the Sunday morning litter picks. Perhaps people could adopt a stretch of road and thus free up the regulars to go to other areas. If Sunday is not convenient, then an hour on a Saturday or indeed on any day would be very much appreciated.  Pickers, gloves and bags will be provided and filled bags will be removed afterwards.
