On Sunday morning the 9th September there were twenty three volunteers on our weekly litter pick. Most areas were covered in the hour. After segregation, there were thirteen bags of waste and three of recycling.

During the week we also had volunteers litter picking in the Town Centre area each morning and on the road to Poulavone each day. From those picks three bags of waste and four bags of recycling were collected..

Tuesday and Thursday work evenings concentrated on clearing the bedding area at the West End as well as grass edging on Old Fort Road.  Any stray litter was dealt with by litter picks and kerb sweeping. Volunteers spent time deadheading the flowering baskets in the hope of prolonging the colours along the streets. In all, twenty three volunteers put in more than thirty hours over the two evenings.

Watering the baskets and bedding areas continued with four volunteers active on different days during the week.

With the evenings closing in there are just a few weeks left on the work evenings.

During the week, sorting the litter and litter picking were among the jobs carried out. Once again, with assistance from VMWare volunteers, collection of the sod from the kerb edging on Leo Murphy/Link Road together with raking the wildflower bank there were completed..

On Sunday we collected twenty three bags from two estates.  Our estates have been very clean this year and all scored well in the Anti Litter competition.

Two major dates for the diary are Monday 24th Sept and Friday 12th October.  On 24th of Sept the National Tidy Towns results are announced in the Helix in Dublin.  A number of our group will be in attendance and we are hoping that all the work done during the year will pay off. Scoring a few more marks while retaining the Gold Medal status of the past six years would be very welcome.

Our annual Awards Night will be held on Friday 12th October. The preparations are well underway and final judging has been completed.

Again, we ask that the Perpetual Trophies be returned to the address below or to any committee member.
