SUNDAY LITTER PICK
On Sunday last 2nd September, we had twenty seven volunteers litter picking throughout Ballincollig. What a great turnout after having our annual barbecue for the volunteers the previous night at The Oriel House Hotel. Everyone had a great night and a very special thank you has to be given to the hotel for making the event such a success. Thankfully the litter was light and eleven bags were collected, three of which were segregated for recycling.
During the previous week there were volunteers litter picking in the Town Centre area each morning and also on the road to Poulavone each day. From those picks four bags of waste and two bags of recycling were collected.
The Tuesday and Thursday work evenings continued and the clearance of the bedding area at the West End as well as grass edging the remaining verges near to Poulavone Roundabout were carried out. A total of twenty one volunteer attendances put in about thirty hours over the two evenings. The edging work gives a tidy finish to kerbs and saves spraying weedkiller so it is well worth the effort.
Watering of baskets and bedding areas continued with four volunteers active on different days during the week.
Adding to ‘Works Completed’ is the job Jarlath, Jack and Brian carried out over the past few weeks on the Inniscarra Road. They cleared debris, soil and weeds from the kerbs and wall bases in this area. Up to fifty bags were filled and this work has made an enormous difference to that road.
CE WORK GROUP
Again, the group did great work throughout the week. Among the work carried out was the collection of the sod from the kerb edging in the Poulavone area. This was done with the assistance of VMWare volunteers.
On Sunday we collected five bags from three estates. The estates have been very clean this year and it is great to see residents maintaining their places to such a high standard. The final judging of estates is now completed in our local competition and results will be announced at our Annual Awards Night.
For the Awards Night the perpetual trophies will need to be returned in plenty of time. So please polish them up and return them to us in the next two weeks.
On Wednesday 29th August Ballincollig was judged in another competition – the Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards. The judges were very impressed with the presentations and were very complementary of Ballincollig in general. .
