Ballincollig Parish Easter Egg Hunts
Each year Ballincollig Parish goes that little bit further for Easter. After the last mass in each church on Easter Sunday the Parish Council organises an Easter Egg Hunt for the children who had attended mass. There is always great excitement on the day. In previous years the Easter Bunny himself made an appearance.
The Easter Egg Hunt will take place after 12 noon mass in the Church of St. Mary and St. John on Station Road. And the other Easter Egg Hunt will take place after 12.30 mass in the Church Of Christ Our Light at Innishmore .
Wash Down Saturday
On Saturday next, 27th April from 10 am to 2 pm, we are asking everybody to come out and get washing. Residents are asked to wash the signs, benches, walls, bins, gates, railings etc. in their various estates.
Some businesses have already cleaned their premises and it has made a great difference. We are asking more businesses, clubs, groups to come out and get involved in this Wash Down Saturday.
We are hoping that many of you will come join us outside the Allied Irish Bank on Main Street at 10 am so that we can work our way through the streets washing everything along the way.
Please give this your support to make it a success.
Sunday Litter Picks
Sadly the Sunday Litter Pick of 14th April was cancelled due to the heavy rain.. Despite the bad weather, three brave Volunteers ventured out and collected one bag of waste each..
During the week previous a number of Volunteers were active each day and picked four bags, two of waste and two of recyclable materials.
In a pick on the Kilumney Road residents cleared three bags of waste and one bag of plastic from the roadside verges.
CE/TÚS Work Group
During the week the main works carried out were grass cutting, planting flower seeds at the allotment site and sorting waste. The clean up of the car park to the rear of Super Valu was completed. The workers tackled the small park area near the East Side Centre. The overgrowth was removed and this opened up the short pathway there. It makes a noticeable difference and perhaps some planting will be added later.
Other Works
A tree in the Old Square was replaced during National Tree Week. The students of Ballincollig Community School were involved in Summer Bulb Planting. A project on the composting of various disposable coffee cups was part of that project. The progress on how quickly these cups break down will be monitored during the remainder of the year.
Work In Progress
Work is being carried out in Estates with clean ups and grass cutting continuing. April is the month of the National Spring Clean Initiative and we encourage all residents to take the opportunity to clean any remaining weeds or debris from the paths and kerbs in front of their properties as well as the usual garden maintenance that takes place.
New Volunteers
If you are interested in joining us any Sunday just come along to Quish’s SuperValu West End where we meet up at 11.00 am for the weekly litter pick.
