Biodiversity has become a very important part of our daily lives. The Biodiversity page on the Ballincollig Tidy Towns website is updated regularly with news and interesting facts and also highlights how we can play our part in looking after our community for generations to come.
Ballincollig Tidy Towns commissioned a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) with funding from the Community Foundation for Ireland (CFI) Environment and Nature- Biodiversity Grants 2019. The grants scheme aims to enhance Biodiversity in communities throughout the country. This is done by combining the expertise of qualified ecologists with the skills, experience and enthusiasm of local Community Groups. Ballincollig Tidy Towns Committee engaged Wild Work to work with them to produce this BAP. We are extremely grateful to The Community Foundation for Ireland, Wild Work SECAD and Cork City Council.
We recently received the first draft of this very comprehensive document which looks at all of Ballincollig. Now we need to digest and work with Wild Work to implement this in the interests of our community. We have learned that the main Biodiversity Action Plans look at what species and habitats are in an area and what issues there might be for them in that area. The plan will then go on to identify what actions are needed to address any issues, who is going to carry out these actions and in what time-frame, as well as what resources are needed to carry out the plan, and who can help. Once this plan has been gone through we will be able to work on any issues that are identified.
