ROLLING WITH THE CHANGES
Over the past few weeks our lives have changed beyond recognition but as a people we have on the whole accepted this and we are playing our part in helping to flatten the curve. In light of the Government guidelines, Ballincollig Tidy Towns has suspended all activities for the foreseeable future. Our last Litter Pick yielded three and a half bags of waste, half a bag of cans and half a bag of glass.
Although we are living in a lock-down situation, we can still take our dogs for a walk and so we appeal to people to clean up after their pets and put the bags in the appropriate bins.
We also plead with people not to throw litter on the streets when they are out for some exercise.
Unfortunately, in the past few weeks with an increasing number of people wearing disposable gloves out shopping or for exercise, we have noticed a serious amount of them discarded on the street. Can people please stop doing this. Keep them in your pockets to take home or throw them in the many bins around the town.
With the extra time we are spending at home why not look for more things that can be recycled. Items like empty shampoo and conditioner bottles. Don’t forget to wash them out, dry them and place them in the recycling bin. It is so important to keep recycling.
GROWING OUR POLLINATOR CORRIDOR
As part of our commitment to extend the Pollinator Corridor in our community, we are constantly looking to Estates to plant Pollinator Friendly Flowers. The latest Estate to undertake this is Westcourt / Westcourt Heights. We are excited to see the results in the coming months.
Any Estates interested in doing the same, contact us at info@ballincolligtidytowns.ie We will happily supply you with the seed.
Remember – Plant Flowers and Bees Will Follow
POSITIVE RESULTS
In the past twelve months, we have seen the volume of litter being collected decrease. This is extremely positive. Any litter at all is too much but it is good to see the levels dropping. Our sincere thank you to everyone for making a difference.
On average there is less than half a bag collected each time a Volunteer goes out.

SPRING FLOWERS
Ballincollig is enjoying some beautiful Spring tulips at present. Last September Tesco Ballincollig kindly donated bulbs to us. We planted them in our window boxes to bloom in the Spring. They are such a lovely sight.
