Elections 2024
Dear Candidates,
We wish to extend our sincere gratitude to all those who stood for election in the South-West Ward during the Local Elections. Your cooperation in refraining from putting up posters on Main Street was greatly appreciated.
In an era where social media places increasing demands on political figures, the importance of local democratic representation remains paramount. We admire your courage in stepping forward for this role.
To those who were not elected, we offer our commiserations. To those who have been elected, we look forward to collaborating with you to achieve a sustainable future for Ballincollig.
Ballincollig Tidy Towns
Kindest Regards
Tom Butler
A Normal Sunday Morning
On Sunday morning we had 26 volunteers out for our Weekly Litter Pick
Our group of volunteers are very diverse in ages and also Nationalities. Everyone is welcomed and everyone makes a difference. This week we Welcomed Sregii from Ukraine. When he arrived it was lovely for him to meet 2 other volunteers Christine from Hong Kong and Csaba from Hungary who both have been involved with BTT for some time.
Even with such strong numbers out we only collected 6 bags of litter. We Also collected 4 bags of sweepings from raised beds at Westcliff collected by Jarlath and Tony aka The Deadly Duo!!
3 bags green recycling from flower bed at entrance to Muskerry Estate and 3 bags green waste from Fr Sexton Park.
We all adjourned to The Plaza for a well deserved Cuppa and cake..
Operation Transformation
Last Week we said Watch This Space as the first boxes were decorated by artist Kevin O’Brien. The theme we selected was pollinators and we are very pleased with the designs that Kevin has created and the impact they make on Main Street. Over the coming weeks more will be completed.
Deadly Duo Strike Again
The boys struck again on Sunday morning when they start a tidy up on the flower bed in front of Westcliffe Estate. Jarlath and Tony made a big difference and promised to come back next week to finish it off… Fingers crossed!!
Eastgate Planters in place
On Saturday morning the final part of the summer planters were put in place by our volunteers. We selected the colours and plants for these and all our planters in January after doing a review of last years planters and we increased the number of pollinators again this year. Our thanks to the Team at Ballinora Nursery for their assistance and support.
Allotment Colour
Early Sunday morning the colours in the allotment would brighten any day. The bees were busy totally oblivious or just ignoring us.
Every day more colours appear as plants bloom!
Parklet Waiting for You
The parklet on Main Street which has been wildly used since installed has had repairs done and has been replanted. If you want to take time out just to sit and watch the world go by or to enjoy a cuppa out in the fresh air The Parklet is the perfect place to do so.
Tuesday Works
On Tuesday Morning Ger Sunday and Tom continued the work on cleaning around the Hydrangeas from the Old Post Office at Carrigrohane to Poulavone Roundabout. What a difference!!
Deep Clean
One of our volunteers Eugene started cleaning the street furniture on Main Street on Sunday morning. While waiting for the water and detergent to soak he used the time to wash the bin near the seat and to weed around the tree. After using some good old Elbow Grease he rinsed off the seat and the difference was so noticeable. A job well done.
Rosewood Orchard
As part of their Biodiversity Project the residents Rosewood were out in force to plant 10 apple trees in the large green area at the rear of the estate on Wednesday evening. Hard work but so satisfying. Great credit is due to Rosewood Residents Association who want make a difference and this is the first part of their plans.
Sunshine on Poulavone
On Tuesday evening armed with shovels and wheelbarrows 13 volunteers spread tons of bark mulch around the premiter beds and the centre bed on Poulavone Roundabout. There was a big rush to get it done in advance of the forecasted rain. We are nearly finished our planting on Poulavone.
Wednesday Work
On Wednesday morning Keith and Sunday along with Ger did a great job on the base of the limestone wall between Oaklands and Station Road junction. There is still a bit of work to do to finish it off.
