Happy Easter from everyone in Ballincollig Tidy Towns

Spring Sunday
Another busy Sunday morning.
We had 37 volunteers out for our Weekly Litter Pick. Between everyone we managed to cover all areas in just one hour.
We also had 4 Transition Year students who although they have completed their Gaisce Awards requirements have decided to stay on as volunteers.
Brigid took the 4 TY Students and they weeded and tidied up the 4 tiered towers on Main Street.
On his rounds Pat collected 12 bags of litter from Sunday and 2 bags from litter picks from during the week. He also picked up 1 bag of vapes.
We adjourned to the Plaza for a welcome Cuppa and Treats.

Hydrangea Works
This week our amazing team finished the work on the Hydrangeas. The lads did an excellent job dead heading and weeding the whole way from the old Carrigrohane Post Office to Poulavone Roundabout. All other projects were put on hold while this work was completed.
Hopefully this year the hydrangeas will give the same results as previous years.

Presidential Visit
We have been advised that on Sunday 18th May Ballincollig will be honoured with the visit of President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabrina to officially unveil the plaque to mark Ballincollig being Irelands Tidiest Town in 2024. It is an historic occasion for our great Community to welcome our President to Ballincollig.
A lot of planning is ongoing to ensure that the occasion goes smoothly. The BTT Committee are currently in meetings with the Presidents Office, Cork City Council and the Tidy Towns Unit. This great occasion is for the Community as a whole and we hope that everyone will come out to welcome President Higgins on the Sunday 18th May.

Transition Stone Bed – Tidy Up
Some people might not be aware of the significance of this Stone in the Green of Fr Sexton Park. This was put in place in May 2019 to mark the Transition of Ballincollig to becoming part of Cork City as the City Boundary was extended on 31st May 2019.
This flower bed was cleaned this week in preparation for planting. Our Team under the leadership of Gay did a great job cleaning the flower bed.

Thursday Works
On Thursday morning Jimmy, Sunday and Bikunda did an incredible job cleaning and edging at the entrance to Parknamore as well as the route from The Talbot Hotel towards Muskerry junction. The difference was immense.
They collected 13 bags of weeds and edgings which were taken for recycling.
In addition they sorted two bags of litter sorted before they hit the road.
