Newsletter 20 December 2024
Busy Sunday
On Sunday morning we had 32 volunteers plus 6 Transition Year Students. Welcome to our newest volunteer Lucy.
Pat collected 16 bags litter plus a further 2 bags of litter and 1 bag of glass from Litter Picks from during the week.
Our volunteers carried out a deep clean on certain areas including the path and steps that goes from behind Westgate Foundation to Community Drive.
Great work was rewarded by a warm cuppa and tasty treats in The Plaza.
Our TY Students enjoyed lovely Hot Chocolate and Cookies.
Busy TY Students
Our Busy TY Students under the direction and guidance of Denis were working collecting leaves and cleaning footpaths on Barry’s Road.
They worked hard and collected four ton bags of leaves. The difference was remarkable.
Main Street Update
Main Street is seeing some revamps and a temporary addition.
AIB is being prepared for a repaint job and the former O’Crualaois shop is being repainted in preparation for a new business.
The Crib has been put in place on Main Street. As usual all donations at the crib go towards local charity BALANCE.
BALANCE does amazing work and all donations are appreciated.
2025 Preparations
On Thursday Morning Keith was washing and sterilising the remainder of the summer planter inserts and then let them out for the rain to further remove the disinfectant.
Job complete and now ready to go into winter storage in preparation for Summer 2025.
Recycling at a cost
Each week we segregate the rubbish collected and we keep plastic bottles and cans separate so that they could be collected. Every 6 weeks Green Dragon would come and collect the large number of plastic bottles and aluminium cans. Unfortunately with the success of Return Greendragon is no longer in business.
So we were left a huge amount of cans and bottles.
After a lot of research
Ger brought all the aluminium cans to Cork Metal and received €35. With Jimmy’s help they then piled all the plastic bottles into the van & trailer and brought them to O’Donohue’s waste and it cost us €30.60 to dispose of them.
A profit of €4.40 if we ignore the price of the diesel for the van and the time involved.
Monday Works
On Monday Morning Gay,Keith and Sunday, loaded the winter planters for Muskerry junction in preparation for Tuesday morning.
They then went and cleared leaves from footpath on Old Fort Road. Using our blower they cleared away the wet leaves from the footpath and gathered them up.
A fantastic job by the lads.
