Sad Farewell!!!

This week was a sad one in some respects in that we had to hand back the magnificent trophy for being Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre 2023. It has been an amazing honour for Ballincollig to have won this trophy and as a community we are extremely proud of our achievement.

As the trophy goes back we like all other entrants know that the adjudication process is now completed for 2023. So like the Leaving Cert Students this week who have had to wait for their results so too must we. Whatever the outcome is we know that we have done our best and that we will continue to do what we do all year round.

What do you think of this????

This is something that frustrates people especially Civic Minded Dog Owners who make an effort to clean up after their dog. Others clearly don’t give a damm and do not care about others. A typical example on Sunday morning in Coolroe Meadows where a very inconsiderate dog owner who allowed their large mutt to “perform” within 1 metre of the dog bin and did not clean up afterwards.

Is the dog responsible? No.

Is the dog owner or the person with the dog responsible Most Definitely? Yes.

Thank you to the people who do clean up after your dogs but to those who don’t Shame On You.

Heritage Week 2024

As part of Heritage Week 2024 there was a Bug Walk in The Regional Park on Sunday. The walk was led by Rosemarie McDonald of Biodiversity Section of Cork City Council, Parks & Recreation.

About 59 adults and 10 children turned out for a very interesting talk on what was a beautiful afternoon in an amazing location.

Sunday Works

On Sunday Morning Denis emptied all the Gum and Butt bins and we are pleased to report that the amount that he collects each week is increasing.

Denis was cleaning kerb side weeds and cleaned back piece of hedge in the car park behind Main Street. He collected five bags of weeds and silt. Disappointing that he had to do this in a public car park.

Tuesday Works 1

On Tuesday Morning Jimmy and Keith carried out great work in Wyndham Downs. They collected one tonne bag of cuttings.

The Before and after photos of the work tell the story on what they did.

Tuesday Works Part 2

Jimmy, Keith, Sunday and Tom continued their work on Tuesday Morning.
In preparation for students returning to school they cleaned the steps and path on the Laneway from BCS all the way to the back of Westgate Foundation.

It’s certainly much safer following their work.

Tuesday Works Part 2

Tuesday Worknight Group 1

On Tuesday evening we had 13 volunteers working on the footpath from Gaelscoil Ui Riordain to the traffic lights. We were cleaning the kerbs and cutting back protruding branches and briars making it safer for the students who return to school shortly.

A great night’s work.

Tuesday Worknight Group 2

On Tuesday night The Three Amigos were busy cleaning weeds at the Eastgate.
As usual the banter was excellent.

After they finished and were posing for a photo we were approached and a man and woman out walking. It turned out that the man is involved with Geashill Tidy Towns who were Irelands Tidiest Village in 2023. It was great to meet them and to chat. He is gone back to Geashill with Eoins High Vis jacket.

On Wednesday Vince, Keith, Sunday and Tom were busy men.

They started by finishing the edging near the Gael Scoil from Tuesday’s Worknight.

They also picked a ton bag of tree clippings from yesterday’s work with Jimmy.

They collected some grass.

Cutting bags from Carridgene.

They finished off with Tom and Sunday decommissioning some vapes while Keith and Vince took the empty bottles for recycling.
