Twenty three Volunteers plus four Transition Year students were out on the streets for the weekly Sunday Litter Pick. They collected twenty bags of refuse, six of which were for recycling.
Some of our Volunteers did daily litter picks around the Main Street and along the road towards the Poulavone Roundabout during the week.
There has been some nice mild weather, between the showers, and it is great to see that many residents have been busy clearing and cleaning not only their own gardens but also taking care of their Estates. Three bags of green waste were collected in the week.
Many thanks to a local resident from the Maglin Bridge who collected a further two bags of waste from that area.
The CE/TUS Work Group have once again been busy in the Allotment. There is a lot of work being done preparing flowers for planting. The workers have also been busy in various areas around town. Grass cutting and weeding will soon be back in full flow throughout Ballincollig.
As part of our ongoing commitment to Biodiversity and contributing to the All Ireland Pollinator Plan we are currently reclaiming two pieces of ground to develop into Wild Flower Meadows. Both our CE Scheme and Tus Workers along with some Tidy Towns Volunteers have been working hard to prepare the ground for planting. A huge amount of preparatory work has been ongoing and hopefully the results of the work will be rewarded with some lovely fragrances and colours in the coming months.

The annual Ballincollig Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is celebrating ten years. This year’s theme is ‘Celebration’. It starts at 3pm. Hopefully many people will come out and support this special event.
With the clocks going forward in the coming weeks, our work nights will soon recommence. We are always looking for more volunteers to come out and help. Everybody has something they can bring to the table. With so much work to do and so many projects to undertake, all support would be welcome.
Come and join us any Sunday for the weekly litter pick. We meet at Quish’s SuperValu at 11am. Everyone is welcome. Relax and make some new friends over coffee/tea and biscuits in the Oriel House Hotel afterwards.
