Saturday was the Annual Volunteers Day Out. The day began with Breakfast in the Oriel House Hotel. The group then boarded the bus and made their way to the Kildare Village. Some took advantage of the stop to watch the Irish Rugby match in the Silken Thomas while others did some retail therapy. After the disappointing result and being all shopped out, the group continued on to the National Stud and the Japanese Gardens. Although the weather was disappointing with heavy rain showers, both places didn’t disappoint. It is amazing how few people had visited either place before Saturday.
When it was time to head home the Horse and Jockey was the obvious place for liquid refreshment and of course our raffle. Members of the Clonakilty Tidy Towns had visited Ballincollig during the week and very kindly presented the Ballincollig Tidy Towns with a beautiful hamper of local goods. It was decided to raffle the hamper among the Volunteers present on the bus so all the names were put into a box and one drawn out. The lucky winner got to take the goodies home to be enjoyed.
Finally, the bus made its way back to the Oriel House Hotel where Ballincollig Tidy Towns had arranged with the Oriel House Hotel to have an Irish Barbecue..
Everyone agreed it was a great day out..
