We are delighted to be celebrating World Book Day in Ireland on Thursday 4th March 2021.
Over the past 24 years, World Book Day has firmly established itself as Ireland’s biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading.
Unfortunately, there are many children who do not have access to books in their homes. World Book Day, gives children an opportunity to have a book of their own by providing book tokens for each child. World Book Day has many €1.50 books, and this year it also has an exclusive Irish title which children will be able to get for free, if they wish, with their World Book Day tokens.
World Book Day will continue to work with schools and nurseries to distribute the €1.50 book tokens once they re-open. Meanwhile, a new single-use digital version of the token can be printed at home or shown to booksellers on a phone or tablet screen. Just ask parents/guardians to check whether their local bookseller is able to accept this option beforehand. Some retailers are only able to accept a printed-out version of the digital token.
If you are a school or nursery/pre-school and would like to register for the digital token, registration is now open – go to the website http://www.worldbookday.com to register. The digital token will be emailed to your school, and teachers can then forward/email the token to parents. Once schools re-open, you will still receive physical tokens for your school if you have already registered to receive them (primary schools are automatically registered).
The token will also be on McDonald’s Happy Meal boxes through February and March, and in some children’s magazines.
