Ballincollig has many beautiful areas in which to walk. There are lots of opportunities to develop various courses that would include items of local history/heritage while getting people active. Ballincollig Tidy Towns  in conjunction with Cork County Council have now developed two such walking routes and there will be a third one completed in the next few months. https://ballincolligtidytowns.ie/www-walkingroutes-ie

The walking routes have seating areas where people can pause a while and take in the beautiful surroundings. There is signage at the start of each route. When the third route is completed an information leaflet of all three routes will be put together. This leaflet will outline the routes together with places/items of interest that they contain. The leaflet will be available from Ballincollig’s Library, the Oriel House Hotel and the Post Office.

Route One. This is The Castle Walk. It starts at the White Horse, goes through Coolroe Meadows and Greenfields and on down the Killumney Road, Barry’s Road and finally back to the start.  This is a lovely walk taking in both the Lime Kiln in Coolroe and views of Ballincollig Castle.

The second route is The Pyke Corner Walk. It starts on Main Street at the site of the old Ulster Bank and goes up Station Road passing the Church of St Mary and St John. It then continues down along Killumney Road onto The Link Road and finally back along Main \Street to the start. The items of interest on this route are the Church, the site of the Fairy Fort and Eastgate.
